A classic re-interpreted for the big screen: nobody comes up with such unusual inventions like the 11-year old Tobbi Findeisen… One day the little robot Robbi lands at his feet after being separated from his parents when his space ship crashed. To help in their search for Robbi’s parents the two friends invent a vehicle that can fly, swim, and drive: a Fliewatüüt! But in the meantime the scrupulous Sir Joshua and his super agents Brad Bloodbath and Sharon Silencer are on the robot’s tail wanting to use him for their own evil purposes. So it is with sheer delight and excitement when an actor is not only given an opportunity to spread his wings, but to fly. From the first moment he appears on screen, every word, every gesture, every muscular emotion is fully present in a transformational role – and a long overdue breakout for this artist. Walking the fine line between comedy and pathos, he is the connective tissue to the humanity that makes this film resonates so deeply and with such dignity for so many. And in the spirit of Seymour Cassel, it is truly an ‘Outstanding Performance’.”

Having reached their 40s Handan and Korhan live a humdrum life in an upper scale neighbourhood in Istanbul. Handan tries to keep herself occupied, relentlessly trying on new pastimes, counting on Korhan´s support for each one. Korhan, on the other hand, having witnessed too many of her whims, has learnt not to make much of them. Failing to get any support or attention from her husband, she takes up writing in order to fill her void, which she imitates from her author friend Sermin. Her aspiration quickly turns into jealousy, disrupting the dynamics between the two families.

The jury’s verdict: “The intelligent script by Stefan Kolditz and the careful direction by Thomas Stuber create – thanks also to the music – a touching, intense atmosphere that continues to grip the viewer even long after the film has ended. The cast, even down to minor characters, exudes an ambivalence that makes it so convincing. The policeman Mehmet Mutlu longing for the German homeland that he lost or the policewoman Maria Sombert who is almost torn apart by the courage to speak the truth and the fear of being ostracised. “
