In the spring of 1912, Alma Mahler (EMILY COX), recently widowed grande dame of Viennese society, embarks on an affair with the “enfant terrible” of the Viennese art scene, the expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka (VALENTIN POSTLMAYR). What begins as a passionate relationship turns into a game of power and dependency in which different lifestyles collide. While Oskar Kokoschka equates love with unconditional devotion and possessiveness, Alma Mahler is reluctant to embody only the role of muse and mother. Following her desire for self-fulfillment, she begins to free herself more and more from the clutches of this amour fou, to fight for her right to a self-determined life and her artistic success as a composer.
